Alice Shupe Rhoten

FROSTBURG- Alice Jane (Mellinger) Shupe Rhoten, 87, formerly of Frostburg died on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Somerford Place in Hagerstown. Born August 24, 1928 in Dundalk, MD , she was the daughter of the late Deleth Mellinger and Lorraine (Brown) Mellinger Neikirk. Alice is preceded in death by her two husbands Dr. Daniel W. Shupe and Charles "Syd" Rhoten and brothers in law Harry Shupe and John Shupe. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church Women. Alice was very active in her church. Alice was a graduate of Bucknell University. She was a member of AAUW, Frostburg Garden Club, Community Theater, Frostburg Museum, the Candle Light Tour, and assisted in fundraising for the new Frostburg Public Library. She is survived by her three sons, Daniel W. Shupe, Jr. and wife Pamela, of Saginaw, MI; David D. Shupe and wife Deborah , of Chesapeake Beach, MD; Mark G. Shupe and wife Kathy, of Sterling, VA; and her daughter Jane Duff and husband Scot , of Fairplay, MD. Also surviving are grandchildren, Daniel W. Shupe III, Alicia Page, Robert Shupe, Lauren Coyne, Andrew Duff, and a great-grandson, Adam Coyne. Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Donald F. Sause officiating. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers , donations may be made to Frostburg AAUW, Frostburg Garden Club,or Alzheimer's Association, Greater Maryland Chapter, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
