FLoyd Presley

December 19, 1937 — January 2, 2016

FROSTBURG- Floyd E. Presley, Jr. 78 of Frostburg, earned his ultimate reward and went to be with the Lord on January 2, 2016 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Floyd battled cancer for the past few months. During this difficult time, we began to realize how many lives Floyd touched and how far his legacy reaches. Born in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Floyd E. Presley, Sr. and Mary C. (Ellington) Presley. He is also preceded in death by a brother James Presley. Floyd was retired from Bell Atlantic Telephone. He attended Cornerstone Baptist Church, Potters Place, Eckhart Baptist Church, and Emmanuel United Methodist Church. He was a born again Christian who enjoyed attending all the churches, their Bible studies, and reading and learning everything he could about the Bible . Floyd served his country as a member of the Army National Guard. He was a member of North American Falconers Association, Potomac Falconers Association, and the NRA. In earlier years, Floyd was an avid gun hunter which transitioned into Falconry. He was a master Falconer for many years. He mentored many apprentice falconers and influenced countless others. Floyd also rehabbed birds of prey, propagated Harris' Hawks, and was a master bird bander. He conducted educational programs for state parks, schools, camp programs, and in recent years concentrated on Bible schools, church groups, and Bible camps. He was an amateur herpetologist focusing on rat snakes, corn snakes, king snakes, etc. He was a member of the Cumberland Country Club Mall Walkers. He enjoyed walking and solving the "world's problems" with the guys over coffee. Floyd loved to read and write. He authored two books, Savage Early Maryland , Books I and II. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sharon (Crowe) Presley, his devoted son Marvin P. Presley and wife Jennifer, Falling Waters, WV; his daughter Pamela; grandchild, Brian Presley and wife Kara, Rohrersville, MD; great-grandchildren, Aiden Presley, Aubrey Presley, Marliegh Presley, Judah Presley, and Hudson Presley. Also surviving is a brother Henry "Hank" Presley , Selbyville, DE; and numerous nieces and nephews. Floyd is also survived on his wife's side by special sisters and brothers in law and their children and grand children. Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 5-9 p.m. In accordance with Floyd's wishes, his body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Hattenfield and Pastor Ken Rafferty officiating. There will be a time of food and fellowship after the services at the Frostburg United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society of the donor's choice or a Christian Church of the donor's choice. The family appreciates the compassionate care given to Floyd at UMPC Mercy Hospital, WMHS CIRU, and the WMHS 7N Med/Surg floor and especially Darlene (Mama Bear) Raley and her angel nurses and assistants.
