Gerald “Jerry” Lewis, 83, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Mountain City Nursing and Rehab. Born January 29, 1938 in Frostburg, He was the son of the late Elizabeth S. (Saathoff) Lewis and Joseph G. Lewis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis “Francie” G. Lewis and brother- in- law, Ken DeVault.
He is survived by his sons, Gerald “Gerry Lee” Lewis II, Michael W. Lewis, and James “Jamie” Lewis and wife Kathy all of Frostburg. A daughter Michelle Lewis and spouse Tina of Milton Freewater, Oregon; a sister Norma DeVault of Carlos; several nieces and nephews, and his former wife of 29 years, and friend Leslie J. Lewis Riggleman.
Jerry worked for several car dealerships in the area as a detail technician. Including Campbell Chevrolet, Shaffer Ford, and Billy Bender Carsmart. He was considered one of the best detail techs in his time, having received many awards. Jerry was a member of Frostburg Church of the Nazarene. He raised the funds for the Baptismal pool and, also drove the church van. Jerry was a past member of the Cumberland Slo-pitch softball League 1977 Championship Team “Celanese”, something he was very proud of and spoke of often. He had a smile and personality that could light up any room.
He will be missed. Until we meet again.
Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with funeral services following with the Rev. Sandy Hetz Burchell as officiant.
