Henry Edgerton Kastell

Henry Edgerton Kastell, 76, passed away on September 6, 2026. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Henry lived a life that was anything but ordinary. He was an intelligent, independent, and uniquely spirited man whose many passions and interests made him truly one of a kind.

Henry earned a degree in Political Science and spent more than 15 years as a top-40 disc jockey, a career that took him and his music across 21 different states. During his broadcasting years, he even had the opportunity to work on the air with legendary radio personality Casey Kasem. Music remained one of the great loves of his life, and his remarkable knowledge of music stayed with him throughout his life.

Henry was an avid baseball fan and had many “favorite” teams over the years, including the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, and Pittsburgh Pirates, just to name a few. He enjoyed watching The Twilight Zone, a special connection made even more meaningful by the fact that his cousin was an actor who appeared in the series. He had a lifelong fascination with trains and loved traveling. Henry also loved walking, and for many years, the track was one of his favorite places to be. At almost any hour, he could be found walking several miles a day, simply enjoying the journey.

Henry spent approximately six years as a night auditor at the Super 8 in Lavale, a job he genuinely enjoyed. He was a longtime member of New Life Church in Frostburg and, in recent years, began attending Lavale Baptist Church.

Henry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Ina Gayle Kastell, who passed away on February 24, 2024, at the age of 70.

He is survived by his son, Henry Edgerton Kastell II; his daughter, Frances Adrienne Kastell; his granddaughter, Alexis Michele Kastell; his grandsons, Noah Kastell and Barry Marsden Huestis III; his daughter-in-law, Emily Huestis; and his great-grandson, Barry “Marsden” Huestis IV.

Henry lived a life all his own, embracing his individuality and unique personality. Along the way, he collected a lifetime of individual experiences, unmistakable stories, and memories that were uniquely his.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all those whose lives he touched.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026,  at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Jeffries officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
