FROSTBURG- LaVerne Irene (Martens) Yutzy, 96, of Pocahontas passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Patriot Home in Somerset. Born in Mt. Savage on May 9, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Walter Martens and Emma (Tressler) Martens. LaVerne is preceded in death by her husband Clyde Yutzy. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. LaVerne had worked at G.C. Murphy Co. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Choir and the Golden Guild. She was a member of the Calanthe Temple # 3 Pythian Sisters and a former member of Greenville Homemakers. She is survived by sons, Raymond Yutzy and partner, Doug Pirkle of Pittsburgh; Roy Yutzy and special friend Margaret Hartman of Pocahontas; Dale Yutzy and wife Gale of Wittenberg; daughter Joyce Wright and husband Bruce of Somerset; grandchildren, Christopher Yutzy and wife Kristy, Holly Wright and wife Wendy, step grandchildren, Stephanie Jones and husband Matt, and Matthew Carney; 5 great-granddaughters and one great-great granddaughter. Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Friday from 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Jeffries officiating. Interment will be in Greenville Cemetery.
