Peggy Sween

October 19, 1940 — June 26, 2021

Zihlman

On 26 June 2021 Peggy Elizabeth Sween (nee O’Neal), 80, a life-long resident of Zihlman went to take her place with her Lord. Peggy offered her family, friends, and the Frostburg community a lifetime of service. Peggy was the daughter of the late Raymond and Dorothy (Hopkins) O’Neal.

A generous Mother, Wife, and Friend who never passed the opportunity to give to others and seldom ask for herself. She retired as Vice President of Mercantile Bank (formerly Fidelity Bank) after more than 30 years and immediately began serving the community of Frostburg for another 20 years as Director of the city’s cemetery.

For decades she served as a state election official and treasurer of the Allegany Methodist Church.

As she joins her God in Heaven, Peggy leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Gerald (Neil) Sween, daughter Regina (Gina), son David, and her 5 grandchildren Madison, Alexandra, Kyle, Josh, and Abby; and sister, Dottie Smith (Johnny) of Mount Savage.

A Memorial service will be held at Sowers Funeral Home on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m.

The family requests that anyone attending the service wear bright, colorful clothing in honor of Peggy’s love for bright colors.

Inurnment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Allegany United Methodist Church, 1711 Mt. Savage Road NW, Mt. Savage, MD 21545.
