CUMBERLAND- Robert C. Symons,67, of Cumberland passed away at home with his wife and daughters at his side on Monday December 5, 2016. Born in Lonaconing he was the son of the late Charles A. Symons and survived by his wonderful and loving mother Wilma A. (Moffatt) Symons of Lonaconing. Bob was a 1967 graduate of Valley High School. In his younger years, he delivered newspapers and TV Guides and worked at Spikers Auto. After graduation from High School, he was employed as a PCO II at the State Police Barricks C in LaVale, Md and retired with 32 years of service. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served as Sgt. in the Signal Corp. as Company Clerk and was stationed in Thailand. Bob also had rental properties in town and worked at Scotty’s Investigation as a courier driver for Pharma Care, Bedford Road and later continued as a driver for Pharma Care and retired from there. Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years Marian S. (Smith) Symons who loved and adored him, his daughters and love of his life, Roberta S. Symons of Cumberland and Shelli Lin (Symons) Day and husband William E. Day who he loved as a son of Cash Valley Road, his sisters Gilberta J. Kelley and husband James T. Kelley of Ellerslie, Charlene W. Robertson and husband Cokey of Smithsburg; and his brother Kevin J. Symons and wife Cheryl of Lonaconing and a sister in law Billie M. (Smith) Groves and husband James Robert Groves of Georgia. He was the proud Godfather of Amanda Dicken and loved her as his own. He has 5 nieces and 6 nephews and their families who he also loved and was proud of their accomplishments in life. Sowers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Leo Lavin officiating. There will be no viewings. Funeral service is for immediate family only. After the graveside burial, the family wishes to have their privacy to mourn.
