Ronald Rice

FROSTBURG- Ronald Elmer Rice, 80, of Frostburg passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the WMHS Frostburg Nursing and Rehab Center. Born April 7, 1936 in Midlothian, he was the son of the late Elmer Thomas Rice and Agnes (Walker) Rice. He is also preceded in death by his brother Wayne Rice and brother in law James Gardner. Ron was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Frostburg. He was a graduate of Beall High School where he was an All Star Athlete in basketball, baseball, and soccer. Ron had worked for Hafer Furniture Store and Mt. Savage Fire Brick. He is survived by his wife, Sharon L. (Gardner) Rice, his daughters, Dana Shipe and husband Dennis of Frostburg, and Ronda Layton and husband Chris of Salisbury, PA. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kevin Shipe and wife Jenny, Justin Shipe and wife, Bevy, Heather Felker and husband, Cody, Rachel Shipe, Briana Layton and fiancée, Tyler Butler, and Kendra Layton, great-grandchildren, Kailey Yutzy, Jacob Shipe, Bryson Felker, and Chloee Butler. There are two more great-grandchildren expecting soon. Also, surviving is his sister Bonnie Hedgepath of Hampton, VA A memorial service will be held at the Sowers Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Laurel Underwood officiating. Family and friends will be received prior to the service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Mountain Ridge Athletic Department, 100 Dr. Gasmick Lane, Frostburg, MD 21532.
