FROSTBURG- Roy J. Boettner, 81, of Frostburg went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 16, 2016 at his home. Born in Frostburg on July 29, 1935 he was the son of the late Roy Boettner and Ruby (Weitzel) Boettner. He is preceded in death by a grandson Jimi McDonald and a son in law Richard “Mac” McDonald. Roy was a member of Frostburg United Methodist Church. He retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, and the Allegany County Board of Education. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Marion (Hadley) Stafford Boettner, sons, Robert Stafford of Frostburg; Harry Stafford and wife Beverly of Rawlings; and Rev. Keith Boettner and wife Melanie of Memphis, TN; daughters, Nancy McGowan and husband Michael of Cumberland; Marion McDonald of Cumberland; Teri Ruppenkamp and husband Michael of Cumberland; and Betsy Green and husband Kenny of Frostburg. Grandchildren, Julie Hoffman and husband Matt, Michael McGowan and wife Michelle, Jill Hartsfield and husband Jason, Amy VanMeter and husband Jason, Sarah Rosenberger and husband Shane, Liz Simmons and husband Asa, Ashley Pomeroy and husband Jeremy, Nick Green and fiancé Hollie Robertson, and Natalie Green. Great Grandchildren, Jocelyn Hoffman and Kurt Gangler, Bailey Hoffman, Emily Martin, McKaylee McGowan, Morgan Pomeroy, Noah Simmons, Jase Simmons, Caleb Hartsfield, Peyton Hartsfield, and Emma VanMeter. Great-Great grandchild Leo Gangler. In Laws, Brother in Law Harry Hadley and wife Arlene, Batavia, Ohio; Sister in Law Caroline Sagal and husband Paul, Fort Ashby, WV. Roy loved his ventures in Florida during the winter months and his stays at the lake camping with their good friends the DeVores. He was known as a gentle giant of a man with a friendly grin and soft laugh that made everyone smile. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kyle Durbin officiating. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Matt Hoffman, Michael McGowan II, Jason VanMeter, Shane Rosenberger, Asa Simmons, Jeremy Pomeroy, Nick Green, and Kurt Gangler. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. After the service, a reception will be held at the Midland Fire Hall.
