Shirley Ann (Wiland) Smith Winner Perdew, 81, of LaVale, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2020 at her daughter’s residence after a brief illness. She was surrounded by family. Born on May 9, 1939 in New Germany, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Lucy (Martin) Wiland. She is survived by her children Carol (Paul) McKenzie, Michael (June) Smith, John Smith, all of Frostburg, Delores (Jeffrey) Delouney, Clarksburg and Jill Winner, Gaithersburg. She was a beloved Grandmother to eight grandchildren (Matthew (Amanda), Ashley (Ben), Justin (Kaena), Kimberly (Steven), Lindsey, Jessica, Zackery and Amanda) and six great grandchildren (Aubrey, Alyssa, Aleah, Madison, Logan and Aubree) and one on the way. She is survived by her sister Helena Crowe. She was a beloved Aunt to several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved “puppy” Wally. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell D. Smith, her second husband, Harry S. Winner and third husband, Stanley S. Perdew, sisters Hazel Rounds, Pearl Wampler and brothers, Norman “Bobby”, James and Paul Wiland. Shirley was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother, an avid Hallmark movie and Wheel of Fortune watcher, loved reading Amish romance novels, loved watching her grandchildren play sports, watching college basketball, and making peanut butter fudge for family and the Lions Club chicken barbecues. She will be sadly missed by so many family and friends. Shirley was a 1958 graduate of Valley High School. She was a homemaker. Shirley was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the LaVale Lionettes and was currently serving her 5th term as President. Friends will be received at Sowers Funeral Home, 60 West Main Street, Frostburg, Maryland, on Monday, July 6, 2020 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Swanson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Interment will be at Frostburg Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the LaVale Lionettes or American Cancer Society. Thank you to all the nurses, aides, doctors and caregivers at Holy Cross Hospital, Adventist Home Health Services and JSSA Hospice for your compassionate care over the past few months. Pallbearers will be Matthew McKenzie, Justin Smith, Zackery Smith, Ben May, and Steven Sloane.
