W. Leon Stertz,Jr. MD

W. Leon Stertz, Jr. MD, 89, of Frostburg passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, at his home. Born December 11, 1933 in Beaumont Texas, he was the son of the late Willie Leon Stertz, Sr. and Ruby (Dalton) Stertz.

Dr. Stertz graduated from Baylor University, Waco, Texas and Baylor Medical School, Houston Texas. He had a private practice in Beaumont Texas for 34 years. He was employed by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Stertz finished his career at the Western Maryland LaVale Clinic. He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Parish; an Old Testament Scholar and he was on the Board for Americans for Democratic Action since 1953. He was also active in the Democratic Party. Dr. Stertz also worked for two years for the Public Health Service in Galveston, Texas. He is survived by his wife Linda de Hoyos, MD, daughter, Julia Baker (Rev. Greg Baker) of Somerset, Massachusetts, grandchildren Finn Gregory Baker and Rosa Sophia Baker.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Emmanuel Parish of the Episcopal Church in Cumberland on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.
