Catherine Miller

April 9, 1927 — October 12, 2021

Mt. Savage

C. Elaine (Cessna) Miller went Home to be with the LORD early in the morning of October 12, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Miller, of Mt. Savage. Elaine was born on April 9, 1927 in Mt. Savage, Maryland. She was the daughter of J. Carl and Ellen Cessna of Mt. Savage. 2 sisters, Mary Emma Blake and Joan Roach and a brother, Carl Cessna, have also gone home.

Known to her loving family and friends, as the “Big E”, Elaine has left here, to carry on her legacy, the following family members. Gary R. and Paula Miller of Plano, Texas and their 4 children Niccole and Steve Arthur, Jeremy and Danielle Miller, Natalie and Tyler Whipple living in Iowa with her 11 grandchildren: Hailey, Madelyn, Elleah, and Kathryne Arthur, Jamie, Summer, and Hope Miller; Bristol, Reid, Becca, and Rhys Whipple; and Matthew McAllister of Dallas, Texas. Dennis and Cathy Miller of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and their 2 sons and 4 grandchildren- Patrick Miller of Mt. Holly, New Jersey and 2 children Alexa and Austin; Bryan and Michelle Miller of Greer, S.C. and 2 daughters Kaleigh and Avery. Karin and Dave Burner of Frostburg, Maryland and their 2 children and 1 grandchild- Tyler Stevens of Frostburg; Heather and Brian Beal and daughter Madalyn and soon to be son, of Mt. Savage; Roger and Tonyia Miller of Thurmont, Maryland and their son Daniel and Elizabeth Miller of Queenstown, Maryland. Linda (Roach) Marsh has been a special niece helping to care for Mom over many years and deserving of our thanks and wishes.

Elaine, a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Church in Mt. Savage, member of the St. Patrick’s Sodality, organizer of the Mt. Savage Food Bank, local historian for the Evergreen House, former teacher’s aide at Mt. Savage Elementary School and school bus monitor to various elementary schools in Allegany County. She was also a charter member of the Mt. Savage Fire Department, and served as an officer on the local town council. Elaine, the eyes, ears and mouth of Main Street and every street in town. She loved talking with people and never met a stranger. Her smile was infectious but her scowl was even more cutting if she threw it your way. Her love of children brought a warm glow to her heart. Her years in education a testimony to having watched 3 family members become teachers and follow in her footsteps. And how she loved Halloween and the many costumes she had designed and worn through the years- the penguin, her all time favorite, a clown, a dog, and even a nun. We never had to want for a costume for she would just whip one up in the sewing room. Mom and Dad were married in 1949 and lived their entire lives in the house we call “home” now 72 years later on Main Street. Her and Dad loved to travel and spend time together. They were always at baseball and other sporting and school events down the years. Mom loved routine- her noontime story hours, ginger snaps and coffee at 10:00 before bed. Notre Dame anything, even getting a personal tour of the famed stadium and going out on the field. Her Steelers, though she wavered on them over the past few years, she never abandoned. So Green/Gold, Black/Gold, and Black/White were all her colors. The many volunteer and committee assignments she seemed never to turn down. Every family pet loved MEMAW. And she loved and spoiled them. And many more activities too numerous to mention here.

And we say thank you Mom. Our family wishes to thank the Mt. Savage family community and all who knew Mom for their love and watchful eyes over her for all these 94 years, and especially in the last 19 years since our father passed way. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers
