Eckhart

Darlene V. Lavin, 79, of Eckhart, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland. Born May 22, 1941 she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Iola Bittner. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband Dale, one sister, Mary Stott and two brothers Harold and Jarold Bittner. Mrs. Lavin was a proud graduate of Beall High School and Frostburg State Teachers College. She was a retired, beloved teacher from St. Michael School and always had a heart for all her students and others. She remained in contact with MANY of her students through social media and was very active with the American Legion. Throughout her life, she always had a passion for bowling and bingo and cherished all her friends associated with those passions. Darlene always made certain everyone else was taken care of without a concern for herself; her giving heart will forever be loved and remembered. She is survived by her two sons; Thomas B. Lavin and wife Jada, of Fairplay, MD and Terry P. Lavin and wife Danielle, of Dothan, AL; three granddaughters Peyton, Cassidy and Teylor Lavin; one sister Carol Klink, LaVale and several nieces, nephews and relatives whom she loved dearly. Due to revised COVID safety guidelines, traditional viewing services will not be held and a funeral service of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the immediate family in Eckhart Cemetery conducted by Sowers Funeral Home P.A., Frostburg with Pastor David Sandvick officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association via their website: www.heart.org May she rest in peace and enjoy her heavenly home. Everyone who knew her knows how much she was looking forward to rejoining the “love of her life”. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her.
